The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival this year will be held on September 25 – 30. It is one of the top literary events in Asia, and voted as “one of the world’s great book events” by Conde Nast Traveler.

The theme for this year festival is “Sekala-Nikala | The Seen & Unseen” with six days of discussion, creative workshops, book launches, children’s program, poetry, theater, film, music and dance.

The festival will feature over 80 writes from 16 different countries, including Kiran Desai; the winner of the 2006 Man Booker Prize, Shashi Tharoor; the author of The Great Indian Novel, Richard Flanagan; award-winning Australian author, Kathy Reichs; forensic anthropologist and best-selling crime writer and Cyril Wong; young Singaporean poet and counter-tenor.

The 5th Annual International event “Kuta Karnival” will be held on the first week of September. During the event, there will be a lot of fun activities for everyone, such as food festivals, fun games, surfing competitions, kite competitions, traditional dance performance, bands festival and many more, located along Bali’s famous Kuta Beach area.

The recent Bali’s new branding “Shanti Shanti Shanti” will be adopted to highlight the festival, to celebrate Kuta’s undying spirit, unity and dedication to peace.

Tempo Interaktif, on July 4, 2007, reported that Indonesia National Carrier, Garuda Indonesia is in the process of renewing their safety certification in compliance with the strict safety standard of the International Air Transport. According to Tempo, Garuda has already reached 95% of the standard of the "International Aviation Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which is scheduled to be carried out in August.

IOSA is a global standard for the safety management of aviation based on the standard set forth on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As recently reported in the international media, all Indonesian registered aircraft, are planned to be black list by the European Commission from operating in European airspace, effective July 6, 2007. EU views that Indonesian aircraft has failed to meet minimal safety standard. The IOSA certification process of Garuda Indonesia will be used to lobby the European Union to cancel their plan to blacklist Garuda and all other Indonsian Airlines from European airspace.

The 29th Annual Bali Arts Festival is held from June 16 - July 16, 2007. Artists from all across Bali, Indonesia and abroad are participating this event. The Bali Arts Festival was first created by former Governour of Bali Ida Bagus Mantra, a Bali Art Visionary and it has grown to become an event, marked every year in Balinese Cultural Calender.

During this one month, there are variety of performance such as, traditional orchestras, dance, singing and other cultures activities from all over the place on the island as well as visiting artists from overseas. The festival was commence with parade and performance of artist centered in Renon area. People are welcomed to visit and witness variety of Balinese cultures, ethnic and performance as scheduled, located in Bali Art Center, Arda Candra, Jl. Nusa Indah.

In recent news, Shanghai Airlines beginning their maiden direct flight service to Bali. Now Chinese tourists can fly directly to and from Bali on an estimated 5.5 hour flight. With great enthusiasm for Bali as a new destination for this market and most importantly we would now begin to recommend Bali to the market. Whilst Garuda Indonesia adds Sydney - Bali Flight to Meet Growing Demand. More Australia-Bali flights is now available to meet demand of the visitors. With Australian arrivals still lagging some 30% behind numbers recorded during the heydays of the tourist boom just 3 years ago, improving year-on-year arrivals have prompted Garuda Indonesia to increase seat capacity with a new Wednesday flight from Sydney to Bali, effective June 20, 2007. The new flight, GA 717 brings the total number of Garuda Indonesia services between Sydney and Bali to five non-stop flights per week with departures daily, except Tuesday and Friday. GA 717 departs on Wednesday mid-morning at 10:00 a.m. arriving in Bali mid-afternoon at 2:35 p.m. Inbound to Australia, GA 716 allows holidaymakers to maximize their holiday time in Bali, departing in the early hours of Wednesday morning at 1:00 a.m. and arriving the same day at 0830hrs in Sydney (schedule is subject to changes without prior notice).
