This dance was taken from the Hindu epic Ramayana and deals with the story of Prince Rama and Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped by the evil King of Lanka. A troupe of over 100 bare-chested men wear a black-white-checkered wrapped around skirt symbolize a mythological monkey army, helpers of prince Rama.  Those men serve as the chorus, doing a synchronized “chak-achak-achak” sound and are swaying their bodies and moving their hands. Other figures like monkey general Hanuman, eagle multiform gods Garuda, as well as opponent demon king Ravana, are a part of the Kecak dance.
